Julia StumbaughAug 30, 2025

Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff are set to face off in the US Open for the first time in six years.

The two stars, who have combined to hoist three of the last seven US Open trophies, earned their spots in the highly-anticipated matchup by winning their respective third-round matches on Saturday.

In the men's bracket, No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 15 Andrey Rublev each survived their most challenging tests of the tournament so far to advance to the fourth round.

Here's a look at the results and highlights from Saturday's action in Queens as the 2025 US Open comes one step closer to the quarterfinals.

No. 27 Marta Kostyuk def. Diane Parry, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2

Osaka earned the chance to take on Gauff by upsetting No. 15 Daria Kasatkina and successfully clinching her first trip to the fourth round of a major tournament since the 2021 Australian Open.

Kasatkina evened the match after two sets on Saturday, but Osaka showed off her power while taking the deciding third set 6-3.

After struggling with her serve in her first two matches of the US Open, Gauff moved on to the fourth round with her strongest performance of the tournament so far.

Gauff landed 76 percent of her first serves on Saturday while defeating No. 28 Magdalena Frech in straight sets.

Gauff will now take on Osaka with a spot at the quarterfinals on the line. Osaka said in her postgame interview that she considered Gauff, who was just 15 years old when she lost to Osaka in the third round of the 2019 tournament, to be her "little sister."

Gauff and Osaka will face off on Sunday, although the time of their match has yet to be announced.

Jannik Sinner faced his most difficult test of the tournament so far in No. 27 Denis Shapovalov.

After losing no more than three games of any set through the opening two rounds of the tournament, Sinner suffered a 7-5 defeat in his first set on Saturday and was later forced to an 0-4 deficit in the third.

The World No. 1 recovered, winning three straight sets to advance to the fourth round in what he told reporters afterward was a "very, very tough match."

Sinner is now set to face either Tommy Paul or Alexander Bublik with a trip to the quarterfinals on the line.

Andrey Rublev meanwhile emerged victorious from a three-hour, five-set thriller against Coleman Wong to claim his own spot in the fourth round.

After an up-and-down performance through five sets, the world No. 15 stood tall in the fifth set in order to eliminate the 21-year-old qualifier from Hong Kong.

Rublev described the match afterward as "a bit more drama than enjoyable."

Rublev will now face No. 25 Felix Auger-Aliassime, who upset No. 3 Alexander Zverev in four sets to move on to the fourth round.

Zverev claimed the first set, but Auger-Aliassime took the second-set tiebreaker on his way to claiming his first Grand Slam win against a top-5 player.

Three men's singles matches ended early on Saturday, with Kamil Majchrzak, Flavio Cobolli and Daniel Altmaier retiring from their respective matches due to injury as Leandro Riedi, Lorenzo Musetti and Alex de Minaur advanced to the fourth round.
