Fans hyped Schwarber's MVP resume after yet another tremendous performance.
Schwarber came into Thursday's contest in a bit of a slump, going 0-for-20 at the plate in his last six games. It's safe to say he's out of that slump now, and looked like the MVP candidate he's been all season in the win.
Schwarber, who won All-Star Game MVP earlier this season, has 49 home runs and an MLB-best 119 RBI this season. He leads the National League in home runs and trails Cal Raleigh by just one for the most in baseball.
Behind Schwarber's strong play, the Phillies are in control of the NL East at 77-57.
Perhaps Schwarber's only rival for MVP is Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, who 45 home runs, 85 RBI and a .278 batting average. On the mound, Ohtani is 1-1 with a 4.18 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP in 11 starts.
Both players have made strong cases for MVP this season, but Schwarber might have given himself a leg up on Thursday.
