Yankees See 77 Pitches in 9-Run Inning, 2nd-Most Pitches in 1 Inning Since 2000
The New York Yankees' offense was rolling on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals.
The Yankees brought 15 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on eight hits, three walks and a catcher's interference call in the bottom of the third inning. During their dominant third inning, they forced the Nationals to throw 77 pitches, the second-most in an inning since at least 2000, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
Washington's Cade Cavalli started the inning on the mound, giving up a single before allowing back-to-back homers from Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger.

Jasson Domínguez then drove in Jazz Chisholm Jr. on a ground-rule double before Cavalli finally got his first out on an Anthony Volpe lineout. But the Yankees weren't done, as they added another run after Austin Wells reached home on a catcher's interference and Ryan McMahon drove in a three-run home run.
That three-run blast forced the Nationals to turn to Shinnosuke Ogasawara, who struck out Trent Grisham for the second out but gave up a solo home run to Ben Rice to make it 9-0. Domínguez gave the Yankees their final run of the inning, driving in Judge on an infield single.
Washington finally got out of the inning when Volpe struck out swinging.
After losing three of four games against the Boston Red Sox last week, the Yankees were looking to bounce back against the Nationals this week. Following Wednesday's offensive explosion, it's safe to say they responded well.
