Frank Gore Jr., Son of NFL Legend Frank Gore, Cut from Bills Roster Ahead of Deadline

Scott PolacekAug 26, 2025

Running back Frank Gore Jr. was among the players the Buffalo Bills released Tuesday ahead of the deadline to announce their 53-man roster.

Buffalo announced all of its cuts, and the son of NFL legend Frank Gore was among the list of notable names that also included wide receiver K.J. Hamler and quarterback Mike White:

Gore Jr. played well at times during the preseason and led the team in rushing yards against the Chicago Bears before he found the end zone against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also showed off his receiving abilities in the passing game.

Here is a look at his three statlines:

Frank Gore Jr. Preseason Stats
  • vs. New York Giants: 5 carries for 21 yards; 5 catches for 50 yards
  • vs. Chicago Bears: 8 carries for 51 yards; 4 catches for 30 yards
  • vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 10 carries for 32 yards and 1 TD; 2 catches for 29 yards

While he lost a fumble against the Bears, the Southern Mississippi product looked like a capable playmaker for much of the preseason and may get an opportunity to prove himself again somewhere else.

Gore joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent last year and ended up on their practice squad after they released him ahead of the 2024 season. Perhaps the same thing will happen in 2025, although he'd surely like an opportunity to play in an NFL regular-season game.

He ran for more than 1,100 yards in each of his final two collegiate seasons in 2022 and 2023 and stood out for his powerful running style and ability to break through arm tackles.

Yet he hasn't caught on at the NFL level like his father did during a lengthy career that lasted from 2005 through 2020 and included stops on the San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

The elder Gore was a five-time Pro Bowler who ran for more than 1,000 yards in nine different seasons. He is also third all-time on the NFL's all-time rushing yards list (16,000) and 20th in rushing touchdowns (81).

Those are quite the footsteps to follow in, and the younger Gore is now facing more of an uncertain future after the Bills released him Tuesday.
