Cubs Reportedly Will Host 2029 MLB All-Star Game If Work Stoppage Threatens 2027 Event
The potential for either an MLB lockout or player strike when the current collective bargaining agreement expires after the 2026 season looms over the sport of baseball. And a work stoppage that lingers well into the 2027 season could force adjustments on a number of fronts, including to the All-Star Game and its host city for that season, Chicago.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, "While there already are rumblings of a potential work stoppage threatening the 2027 All-Star Game at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs have been guaranteed that they would host the 2029 game as a contingency plan."
The All-Star Game has only been missed in two seasons throughout MLB history—in 1945, due to World War II, and in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A strike or lockout has never cancelled the event (even the infamous 1994-95 strike occurred after that year's All-Star Game).

In 2020, Dodger Stadium was set to be the host venue for the event. It was given hosting duties for 2022 instead.
Next year's event will be hosted by Philadelphia, with Chicago scheduled for 2027 if the players and owners manage to avoid a work stoppage.
