Eagles' Johnny Wilson Reportedly Out for Season with Knee, Ankle Injuries

With just two weeks remaining before the start of the 2025 season, the Philadelphia Eagles reportedly lost a depth piece on offense.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Eagles wide receiver Johnny Wilson will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee and ankle after getting injured at practice on Tuesday.

The Eagles selected Wilson with a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He appeared in 16 games as a rookie and recorded five catches for 38 yards and a touchdown on 15 targets. He played in this year's preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns and recorded three catches for 73 yards.

Philadelphia has a talented receiving corps led by stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and 2022 first-round pick Jahan Dotson. The team also acquired fourth-year wideout John Metchie III from the Houston Texans in a trade earlier this week. Wilson's injury could also open a spot for undrafted free agent Darius Cooper, who has shown promise with six catches for 82 yards and a touchdown this preseason.

The Eagles are hoping to make a second straight run to the Super Bowl after winning their second title in franchise history last season. The team retained most of the core from last year's championship squad, led by the star duo of quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley.

Philadelphia will close out the preseason on Friday against the New York Jets before embarking on a quest for a second consecutive title.
