Caitlin Clark Reportedly Suffered 'Very Mild' Ankle Injury amid Groin Injury Rehab

Andrew PetersAug 20, 2025

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is trying to make her way back onto the court after a groin injury, but she's reportedly now dealing with another injury as well.

Per Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star, Clark suffered a "very mild" bone bruise in her left ankle earlier this month. The good news is that the ankle injury doesn't affect her timeline for a return.

Fever coach Stephanie White didn't have much of an update on Clark's return on Wednesday.

"Until she can get into practice, and until you guys see her in practice, it's really status quo, same as same as we have been," White told reporters.

Clark has been sidelined since July 15 because of a right groin injury she suffered against the Connecticut Sun. White hasn't given an exact timetable for Clark's return, but said earlier this week that the "hope" is for Clark to return to the court before the end of the regular season in early September.

Unfortunately, injuries have been the theme of Clark's second season in the WNBA.

She missed five games in late May and early June because of a left quad sprain, returning on June 14. After five games, she suffered a left groin sprain in late June, returning to action two weeks later. She played just four games before injury her right groin.

In total, Clark has played just 13 games, putting up 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Clark's injury is one of many that have impacted the Fever this season. Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson both suffered season-ending injuries earlier this year, and Indiana's backcourt got even thinner when guard Sophie Cunningham sustained a season-ending knee injury this week.

Even with the various ailments, the Fever have managed to stay alive in the playoff race and they're currently sitting in sixth place at 19-16. If Indiana can punch a ticket to the postseason, having Clark back on the floor eventually could give the Fever a chance to make a deep run.
