Breece Hall Trade Rumors Dismissed by Jets HC Aaron Glenn, 'Wish I Had More' RBs
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn knocked down any trade rumors surrounding running back Breece Hall, instead noting to reporters Tuesday that he wished he had more running backs on the roster.
"We have like three good running backs, and I keep saying that," Glenn said, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "Listen, they all have different skill sets that we're going to utilize. And that does not mean that I'm trading Breece. OK? Does not! So, I'm going to say that right now. I just like having three good guys. Hell, I wish I had more, but we don't."
On Aug. 12, Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda threw out the idea of the Jets potentially dealing Hall by the trade deadline and rolling with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.
"People close to the situation speculate that the Jets could move Hall by the trade deadline, then move forward with Braelon Allen, as well as Isaiah Davis and eventually draft a running back in 2026. Allen, a second-year back who was a fourth-round selection in 2024, surprised everyone last season and played beyond expectations."
Hall is entering the final season of his rookie contract. Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, if Hall delivers a good 2025, he may look to the contracts of Buffalo Bills RB James Cook (four years, $48 million) and Kyren Williams (three years, $33 million) as inspiration for his next deal.
"If he can deliver a good season, he will look for a deal similar to Cook's and Williams' contracts," Cimini wrote. "It might be too rich for the Jets, especially with so many other key players up for new contracts."
Hall was asked about those deals and admitted they have both done more than him at this stage in their careers, but he also noted they've been in better situations (an accurate assessment).
In theory, the Jets could look toward Hall's impending free agency and decide they want to deal him before losing him this offseason.
That being said, Hall is the team's most productive running back, and it's clear Glenn values the position. Hall had 1,359 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns last season. Of note, he's a versatile back who can move the chains through the air (57 receptions for 483 yards and three touchdowns last season).
The former Iowa State star, who was selected with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, was sensational in his rookie year before a torn ACL in his seventh game ended his season. Hall had gained 681 total yards and scored five touchdowns until that point.
Hall's rushing efficiency has gone down from 2022 (5.8 YPC) to 2024 (4.2 YPC). However, he's also proven to be a reliable mainstay in the Jets' backfield for the past two years, a great sign after a devastating 2022 injury.
Ultimately, Hall doesn't appear to be going anywhere this season, although the 2026 campaign and beyond is up for debate as his free agency looms.
