Fever Set Team Record with 21-Point Comeback Amid Caitlin Clark, Cunningham Injuries
Despite being without star guard Caitlin Clark and losing veteran guard Sophie Cunningham to a knee injury in Sunday's game against the Connecticut Sun, the Indiana Fever earned a hard-fought win and made some history along the way.
The Fever overcame a 21-point deficit to earn a 99-93 win over the Sun in overtime, marking the largest comeback victory in franchise history, per ESPN's Alexa Philippou. Cunningham exited the game in the second quarter after injuring her knee, and Clark hasn't played since last month while recovering from a groin injury.
"They've got something inside them you just can't teach," Fever head coach Stephanie White said after the win. "They bring it out of each other. It allows us to go through these incredibly tough times that we're going through and always gives us a chance."

Per Philippou, the Elias Sports Bureau stated that WNBA teams had an all-time record of 29-1,722 when trailing by 20-plus points in a game entering Sunday.
Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell scored 34 of her 38 points after halftime to spearhead the comeback. She set the mark for the most points scored in a game by a WNBA player for the 2025 season while also tying her career-high.
"Speechless, really," White said of Mitchell. "She just put us on her back."
In addition to being without Clark and Cunningham, the Fever lost point guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson to season-ending injuries in the same game on Aug. 7. At 19-16, Indiana is hoping to maintain its playoff positioning, so every win is crucial.
"I really think that that's the most resilient that we've ever been because of everything we've been through," Mitchell said.
White said that Cunningham will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of her injury. The Fever will have some time to rest up before returning to action against the first-place Minnesota Lynx (28-5) on Friday.
