Phillies' Jhoan Duran Says He's '100 Percent' After Foot Injury vs. Nationals

Andrew PetersAug 16, 2025

Jhoan Duran took a comebacker off his right foot on Friday and had to be carted off the field, but the Philadelphia Phillies closer said Saturday that he's fine.

Per Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Duran said he feels "100 percent" and was not limping ahead of the Phillies' matchup against the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon.

In the ninth inning of Friday's 6-2 win over the Nationals, Washington's Paul DeJong hit a grounder to the mound that hit Duran's foot and ricocheted into foul territory for a single. Duran initially tried to go for the ball but started limping near the foul line.

Team trainers met him on the field before the Nationals' bullpen cart took him to the locker room. His X-rays were negative, but the Phillies said they planned to evaluate him further on Saturday.

"He ran like a shot to retrieve the ball, and once he got there, I think the adrenaline wore off and the pain set in," Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters after the game. "But before the cart came out, he said, 'I actually feel better, I think I can walk over to the dugout.' But we got all these steps up here, so we just wanted to use the cart and take him all the way around, so he didn't have to go up the steps."

The Phillies acquired Duran ahead of the MLB trade deadline in return for prospects Eduardo Tait and Mick Abel. Duran has performed well since that trade, allowing zero runs across four innings and going 4-for-4 in save opportunities. Across 54 appearances this season, Duran has a 1.86 ERA with 56 strikeouts and 20 saves.

It appears he has avoided a series injury after taking the comebacker off his foot, and he'll look to continue delivering for the Phillies.
