Jhoan Duran Reportedly Traded to Phillies, Twins Get Prospects Mick Abel, Eduardo Tait

The Philadelphia Phillies finalized a trade to acquire closer Jhoan Durรกn from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Twins received prospects Eduardo Tait and Mick Abel in the swap, per USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post previously reported that the Phillies were one of several teams "prominently" in the mix for Durรกn including the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners.

The 27-year-old's future in Minnesota looked murky as the deadline approached, especially with the Twins sitting six games back from the final American League wild card spot with a 51-57 record.

Durรกn owns a 2.01 ERA in 49 games this season, racking up 16 saves. Opposing batters are hitting just .219 with a .553 OPS against him this season and he also has a career average of 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Phillies haven't been able to find a consistent closer in 2025. Philadelphia owns an ERA of 4.53 in the ninth inning or later this season, theย fifth-worstย mark in the majors.

Durรกn should provide a solution to the Phillies' issue and help them contend for the National League East crown, as they're currently tied with the New York Mets for the No. 1 spot in the division with a 61-46 record.

He's alsoย arbitration-eligibleย for two more years.

Tait has spent time at catcher with Single-A Clearwater and High-A Jersey Shore in 2025, owning a .255/.319/.434 slash line with 11 home runs in 82 combined games.

As for Abel, he holds a 2.55 ERA with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season and posted a 5.04 ERA across six starts with the Phillies in the majors.
