Friday Recap
Venezuela 4, Canada 0
Venezuela blanked Canada thanks in large part to a dominant start from Andres Reyes Querales.
Reyes went five innings and allowed just one hit while striking out seven. He also helped his own cause in the bottom of the second as he singled to center and brought home a run.
Sebastian Lopez shut the door for Venezuela in the sixth. Canada managed to get a runner on base with one out after Emmett Stefanson was hit by a pitch, but Stefanson was thrown out trying to steal second for the final out.
Due to Reyes' efforts on the mound, Venezuela didn't need a ton of offense. Aside from his RBI single, the other scoring plays were a walk in the first and then a wild pitch and fielder's choice in the second.
Nevada 5, Washington 3
An early lead and late offensive surge propelled Nevada to victory over Washington.
The group from Summerlin South Little League jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning on a fielder's choice and then a single by first baseman Grayson Miranda. That score held until the bottom of the fifth.
Washington right fielder Connor Smith got one run back with a two-out triple deep to left. Asher Monson left Smith stranded as he grounded out to end the inning.
Nevada gained some breathing room in the top of the sixth. Second baseman Cache Malan smashed a two-run homer to dead center, and Mason Schutte made it a 5-1 game with a single to right.
Catcher Mason Woods trimmed the deficit for Washington with a sacrifice fly, and center fielder Finn Harrington proceeded to double to plate another run.
Nevada's Ethan Robertson wrapped up his complete game by punching out Andrew Madsen, though, ending Washington's comeback bid. Robertson threw 89 pitches and notched seven strikeouts.
Aruba 8, Panama 2
Arnold Gismar Martha took a perfect game into the fifth inning as he and Anthony Santos combined to keep Panama's offense in check en route to an 8-2 victory.
Martha's early dominance was necessary for Aruba as it clung to a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning. That's when the team from Santa Cruz put three runs on the board. Emerson Mercado and Diliano Raven knocked in a pair with singles, and Martha crossed the plate on a groundout by Isaac Arendsz.
A double in the bottom of the fifth by Emanuel Flores gave Panama its first run, but that was the extent of the damage.
Aruba padded its lead with four more runs in the sixth, and that put the game out of reach.
Connecticut 5, Hawaii 1
Connecticut overcame an early deficit to emerge victorious over Hawaii.
Josh Tanaka gave Hawaii a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an impressive RBI double, but his squad couldn’t get on the board for the rest of the game.
Meanwhile, Brian Palazzolo’s bases-loaded walk in the top of the fifth inning tied the contest. Connecticut wasn’t finished during the frame, scoring two runs off an error after Charlie McCullough put the ball in play. A two-run double from Luca Pellegrini gave his team a four-run advantage before the end of the inning.
SJ Taxiltaridis and Tommy D'Amura put together stellar performances on the mound for Connecticut, combining to record eight strikeouts while giving up five hits during six innings of action.
