Vikings' J.J. McCarthy Calls Himself 'One of the Most Accurate Guys Out There'
Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is confident heading into his first season starting under center.
"I think I'm one of the most accurate guys out there," McCarthy said Thursday, via ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
"Just being able to really lean into that as one of my strengths is something that I always have to be extremely hard on, every single throw," he added.
Expectations are high for McCarthy, who is set to take over for Sam Darnold in Minnesota following the veteran's departure in free agency.
The Vikings selected McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft following a 2023 season at Michigan in which he won a national championship and led all qualified Big Ten passers with a 72.3 completion percentage.
He didn't have an opportunity to see any regular-season action in 2024 due to a torn right meniscus, but completed four of his seven pass attempts for 30 yards during Minnesota's 20-10 preseason win over the Houston Texans on Saturday.
McCarthy has looked sharp during the Vikings' recent joint practices with the New England Patriots, connecting on 13 consecutive throws during Thursday's session (h/t Alec Lewis of The Athletic).
He may not have another chance to showcase his accuracy in the preseason, as he was ruled out of Minnesota's upcoming clash with New England.
Instead, McCarthy will look towards Week 1 against the Chicago Bears in order to back up his claim.
