It was also his 27th homer of the 2025 season, giving New York a 5-1 lead over the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the third inning.

Strawberry congratulated Alonso on reaching the mark in a video posted to social media:

It's fairly rare for teams to have home run leaders below 300 total dingers. Most of teams in that category are newer franchises, such as the Arizona Diamondbacks (Luis Gonzalez, 224), Tampa Bay Rays (Evan Longoria, 261) and Miami Marlins (Giancarlo Stanton, 267).

The Marlins joined MLB in 1993, while the Diamondbacks and Rays were added in 1998.

The Washington Nationals (Ryan Zimmerman, 284) and San Diego Padres (Manny Machado, 167) also have home run leaders under the 300 mark. The Nationals were originally the Montreal Expos, who joined in 1969, the same year as the Padres.

San Diego is the only franchise in MLB history with an all-time homers leader under 200 dingers.

As for the Mets, the organization joined the sport in 1962.

While they have struggled of late, losing 11 of their last 12 games coming into Tuesday, Alonso has done his part. He came into the game against the Braves ranking second on the team in both homers and OPS, trailing only Juan Soto, and led the Mets in RBI.

And now he's left his mark on the team's record books.
