Kevin Durant Says Him Winning NBA Finals MVP Awards Over Curry 'Scarred' Warriors Fans
Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant wrote that his NBA Finals MVP award victories over Stephen Curry "scarred" Golden State Warriors fans in a Sunday post on X.
Durant also responded to a fan asking why some Warriors fans dislike him, explaining that "they will never recover" from his Finals MVPs.
Durant and Curry won championships together in each of their first two years as teammates in 2017 and 2018, with the forward earning Finals MVP honors on both occasions.
Curry and the Warriors won a championship prior to Durant joining the team in 2016, but Andre Iguodala earned the Finals MVP award partly due to his defense on LeBron James.
While Curry had three championships and two MVPs under his belt after Durant left Golden State to join the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the 2019-20 season, he wasn't able to capture his first Finals MVP until 2022.
Curry averaged 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game on 48.2/43.7/85.7 shooting splits as the Warriors took down the Boston Celtics in six games to clinch the title.
While Durant detailed his belief that Golden State's fanbase hasn't rallied behind him since his tenure with the organization due to his hardware, he received a particularly loud cheer from fans in Oakland for the 2025 NBA All-Star festivities.
Durant was almost dealt from the Phoenix Suns to the Warriors prior to the Feb. 6 trade deadline, but he was against the potential move and a swap never materialized.
Instead, he became a member of the Rockets as part of a seven-team trade on July 6.
As Durant gears up for his first year in Houston, his relationship with Warriors fans still appears to be complicated.
