Cameron Brink Scores 5 Points Off the Bench as Sparks Lose to Valkyries

Julia StumbaughAug 9, 2025

Los Angeles Sparks star Cameron Brink continued working her way back from the knee injury that delayed her 2025 WNBA season start during her Saturday night return to the Bay Area.

The former Stanford standout contributed a block, two rebounds and five points in 16 minutes on the court during the Sparks' 72-59 loss to the Golden State Valkyries.

Brink also hit a three-pointer to help the Sparks make a comeback push to try and catch the Valkyries in the third quarter.

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who is Brink's godbrother, was in attendance at the Chase Center to watch the game.

Dearica Hamby led the Sparks with 15 points in the loss, while Veronica Burton put up a game-high 16 points for the Valkyries.

The victory will help Golden State, which was coming off back-to-back losses to the Las Vegas Aces, stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.

The game marked Brink's first time playing against the Valkyries. She previously played four college seasons in the Bay Area, where she helped lead Stanford to a national title in 2021.

After suffering a torn ACL and meniscus while playing for the Sparks last June, Brink made her return to the court on July 29.

The 23-year-old has played limited minutes since then as head coach Lynne Roberts has managed her return to the court.

The Sparks had won eight of their last nine games heading into the weekend prior to Sunday's loss to the Valkyries.

Sparks fans will hope to see Brink continue increasing her playing time over the next few weeks. Her defensive dominance will be key to the Sparks getting back in the win column as the team looks to secure a playoff spot before the regular season wraps up in September.
