A.J. Brown Says Lombardi Trophy's 'Not Loyal,' Eagles Need to Win Super Bowl Again

Timothy RappAug 4, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles head into the 2025 season looking to defend their Super Bowl title. Wide receiver A.J. Brown knows it won't come easy.

"The process is still the same. I am very blessed and fortunate to achieve and win the Super Bowl as a team. But the process of the daily grind stays the same," he said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "Once you kind of look at it through that lens, you just gotta go back to work. That stuff is over with. I like to say, 'The Lombardi, she's not loyal.' We gotta do it again, try to win her over again."

The 28-year-old Brown will be a major factor in the team's repeat ambitions.

While the Eagles morphed into a run-heavier team behind their elite offensive line and superstar running back Saquon Barkley last season, Brown's ability to torch cornerbacks down the field made it difficult for opposing teams to load the box.

The star wideout caught 67 passes for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games last season, a down year by his own lofty standards, though injuries cost him nearly a quarter of the season. It was still his fifth 1,000-yard season in his six-year career, however, continuing his run of consistent production.

The Eagles are the NFL's most balanced offense, combining Barkley's unique abilities in the run game with a fantastic offensive line, Jalen Hurts' dual-threat capabilities at quarterback and an elite receiving corps that includes Brown, DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert.

And the team will largely return the same offense from a year ago, with right guard Mekhi Becton the only starter to depart this offseason, though a change in offensive coordinators could also lead to an adjustment period (former passing-game coordinator Kevin Patullo was promoted after Kellen Moore departed to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints).

There are bigger question marks on the defensive side of the ball, of course, where the Eagles are looking to replace impact players like Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Darius Slay Jr., CJ Gardner-Johnson and Brandon Graham, among others. But the Birds still have a talented core on that side of the ball, highlighted by players like Zack Baun, Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

Repeating isn't easy, but an entitled mentality seems unlikely to affect this group, many of whom were also around for a Super Bowl appearance in the 2022 season. There are on-field question marks at positions like edge-rusher, CB2 and safety, but Philly has a strong core of leaders, and Brown's quote on Monday was a reflection of the team's mindset heading into 2025.
