Eagles' Jalen Hurts Dismisses Practice Concerns, 'Fatigue Makes Cowards of Us All'

Timothy RappJul 29, 2025

The Jalen Hurts "inspirational quotes catalogue" has another hit.

"Fatigue makes cowards of us all," he told reporters on Tuesday regarding the summer heat the Philadelphia Eagles were dealing with this week during training camp. "The last two days have been very challenging from a heat standpoint, so everybody collectively, as a group, continues to push through those things. Control what you can. I think this is a good test of where we are right now and where we desire to go."

Hurts is no stranger to a good sound byte, often filled with some pearl of wisdom or inspiration.

"I had a purpose before everybody had an opinion," he once told reporters. "It's not about anybody else."

"Keep the main thing, the main thing," is another famous one, a reminder that winning trumps any individual wants or outside distractions.

"Rent is due every day," serves as a reminder that the expectation is to bring your best effort each and every day.

And of course: "I didn't walk through all that fire just to smell the smoke."

You may have your own opinions on the borderline relentless nature in which Hurts offers up his inspirational quotes, but they clearly are working. He's now led the Eagles to a pair of Super Bowl appearances in the past three seasons and a championship this past year, earning Super Bowl MVP honors in the process.

Where he ranks among the top quarterbacks of this era remains a consistent debate, as he doesn't put up the massive passing numbers (2,903 yards, 18 touchdowns, five interceptions, 68.7 completion percentage this past season) that some of his contemporaries offer, though the Eagles rely heavily on the rushing attack and asked him to take less chances and limit his turnovers last season, which he obliged.

He also remains a game-changer when he tucks and runs, with 630 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns last season. And his lower-body strength has contributed to the Tush Push becoming a nearly impossible short-yardage play to stop, to the point that a number of teams sheepishly attempted to ban it yet again this spring.

Everybody will be gunning for the Eagles this season, looking to take down the defending champs. But don't worry—there's a Hurts quote for that, too.

"We have a standard for ourselves, and it only rises."
