MLB Unveils Timelapse Video of Field Being Made for Braves vs. Reds Speedway Classic

Hours before the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds play the first MLB regular-season game in the state of Tennessee, the league released a special video showing Bristol Motor Speedway getting a baseball makeover.

MLB unveiled a timelapse video showing the process of turning the race track into a field fit for the Braves and Reds to play on Saturday night.

The process of converting the track into a field fit for an MLB game was fairly complicated.

Hikari Shumsky, MLB’s senior coordinator for global event operations, told Manny Randhawa of MLB.com everything was done from scratch.

"Bristol Motor Speedway is a professional NASCAR facility," Shumsky said. "Anything in the baseball configuration there doesn’t exist unless we build it. If we don’t build dugouts, they don’t exist. If we don’t build bullpens, they don’t exist. Clubhouses, all of that."

Randhawa noted MLB had to use several tons of gravel to "create a level playing field" and removed a building that was located in the area now occupied by the outfield.

In addition to the playing field for the game, MLB built a fan zone that includes a ferris wheel and concert stage that will provide pregame activities for fans.

All of this effort for a single game is going to pay off for MLB. The league has already announced the game will set a new regular-season attendance record with more than 85,000 tickets sold as of Monday.

First pitch for the Speedway Classic featuring the Braves and Reds will begin at 7:15 p.m. ET on Fox.
