Terry McLaurin Trade Request Discussed by Commanders HC, Says It's Not A Distraction
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn isn't bothered by Terry McLaurin's contract standoff with the organization.
Speaking to reporters prior to the team's practice on Saturday, Quinn explained he was informed by McLaurin ahead of time that the trade request was coming and they hope to bring him back, but "it is not" a distraction for them:
"He let me know that that was happening, too. We love Terry. Really glad he's here. Hopefully he's out practicing soon. We also understand the business side. ... I'm really glad he's here. I love coaching him. ... Somebody asked me if it is a distraction. It is not."

McLaurin reportedly made his trade request on Thursday amid stalled contract talks with the Commanders.
Despite McLaurin's request to be moved, The Athletic's Dianna Russini noted Washington has rebuffed all trade inquiries for the star receiver throughout the offseason.
The Commanders are in a bit of a tricky spot with McLaurin. He is undoubtedly their best wide receiver and a necessary player for a team with lofty goals after reaching the NFC Championship Game last season.
ESPN's Adam Schefter has said the feeling is McLaurin wants a deal that pays him "considerably more" than the $33 million annual salary DK Metcalf got on his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being acquired from the Seattle Seahawks.
Even though McLaurin is a more well-rounded receiver, Metcalf is actually a good statistical comp for him. Their per-season averages are nearly identical, with McLaurin averaging just over nine more receiving yards (1,063.2 to 1,054) and Metcalf average more touchdowns (8.0 to 6.3).
One key difference, though, is McLaurin is more than two years older than Metcalf. He will turn 30 on Sept. 15, while Metcalf won't turn 28 until Dec. 14.
Of the top 20 highest-paid receivers by average annual salary entering the 2025 campaign, only four will be in their age-30 or older season. Tyreek Hill is the only over-30 wideout making at least $30 million annually.
From a pure financial standpoint, it could be argued the Commanders giving McLaurin a deal of that side wouldn't be an ideal use of resources.
However, the whole point of having a superstar quarterback on a rookie contract is it gives teams the flexibility to go out of their comfort zone with certain things. McLaurin has thrived in Washington despite some pretty bad quarterback play before Jayden Daniels was drafted.
The Commanders did make moves in the offseason to take advantage of Daniels being on a cheap contract, including acquiring Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil in trades.
McLaurin is the driving force on the outside for Washington's offense. He has never had fewer than 919 receiving yards in a season and has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in each of the past five years.
It would be stunning if the Commanders didn't eventually get a deal done with McLaurin, but he's still keeping the door open to other possibilities if they don't want to meet his demands.
