Last month, the 95th edition of the MLB All-Star Game was played at the Atlanta Braves' Truist Park, featuring the National League beating the American League in the first-ever home run swing-off tiebreaker.
The AL holds the all-time advantage over the NL in MLB All-Star Games with a record of 48-45-2.
Wrigley Field, which opened in 1914, is the second-oldest MLB ballpark that is still actively in use, behind only the Boston Red Sox's Fenway Park, which debuted in 1912.
Highlighted by its ivy-covered walls, there are few venues in major American sports that are more historic and iconic than Wrigley.
The 2027 MLB All-Star Game will mark the fourth time Major League Baseball's Midsummer Classic has been held at Wrigley Field.
On the three previous occasions, the AL beat the NL 2-1 in 1947, the AL defeated the NL 9-4 in 1962 and the AL took down the NL 2-0 in 1990.
Additionally, 2027 will represent only the second time the Home Run Derby will have occurred within the confines of Wrigley Field.
The first time, in 1990, Cubs legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg won the competition.
Sandberg, who was the 1984 NL MVP and one of the greatest second basemen in MLB history, died Monday at the age of 65 following a battle of metastatic prostate cancer.
The 2027 MLB All-Star Game figures to be a celebration of Sandberg and many of the other all-time greats who made a name for themselves as Cubs, including Ernie Banks, Andre Dawson, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, Sammy Sosa and a host of others.
