Then, right before the 6 p.m. ET deadline, the Yanks added Tampa Bay Rays utility player José Caballero and San Francisco Giants right-handed reliever Camilo Doval.
New York also traded infielder Oswald Peraza to the Los Angeles Angels.
Before Thursday, the Yankees added three new position players in Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon, Chicago White Sox outfielder Austin Slater Washington Nationals utility man Amed Rosario.
