Cedric Mullins Reportedly Traded to Mets From Orioles Ahead of 2025 MLB Deadline
The New York Mets aren't messing around ahead of Thursday's MLB trade deadline.
After bolstering the bullpen, the Mets reportedly acquired outfielder Cedric Mullins for prospects Raimon Gomez, Anthony Nunez and Chandler Marsh, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
Nunez, a pitcher, is considered the Mets' No. 14 overall prospect, per MLB.com, while fellow pitcher Gomez ranks 30th.

Mullins, 30, is hitting .229 this season with 15 homers, 49 RBI, 42 runs, 14 stolen bases and a .738 OPS. The 2021 All-Star should help address New York's need for an upgrade in centerfield.
Like the team's trio of bullpen additions (Ryan Helsley, Tyler Rogers and Gregory Soto), however, Mullins is a short-term rental. All four are scheduled to hit free agency this winter, an indication that the Mets aren't afraid to go all-in on this season (and had the farm system depth to do so).
The 62-47 Mets are currently a half-game above the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. Both teams have been busy ahead of the deadline and waged a bit of an arms race—the Phils have acquired closer Jhoan Duran and outfielder Harrison Bader via trades and signed reliever David Robertson.
The stretch run should be fun in the NL East, which includes seven head-to-head matchups between the Mets and Phillies. Both teams address major needs in July, and both are clearly gunning for both the division and a World Series title.
