Cubs Reveal No. 23 Uniforms in Honor of Ryne Sandberg for Orioles Game in New Video
The Chicago Cubs announced that they will be wearing No. 23 uniforms on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles in honor of the late Ryne Sandberg, who died this week after being diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer.
Sandberg, a Hall of Famer, was one of the best second basemen in baseball history and one of the most beloved Cubs of all time.

He was also a 10-time All-Star, nine-time Gold Glover, seven-time Silver Slugger and the 1984 NL MVP. For his career, he hit .285 with 282 homers, 1,061 RBI, 1,318 runs, 344 stolen bases and a .795 OPS.
"Just ungodly consistent," his former teammate and then-Cubs lead-off hitter, Bobby Dernier, told ESPN's Jesse Rogers when asked what made Sandberg so great. "And the style of game back then demanded a little bit of baserunning prowess and being capable of stealing bases and scoring a lot of runs. And so that was our style. He was tremendous. Pitchers were always paying a little more attention to me on the bases than him at the plate, and that was a big mistake and he'd take full advantage. He'd almost giggle about it, is what I remember in the dugout."
"He's in a class by himself. You would never know he was one of the greatest players ever, just by the way he carried himself and the 'aw, shucks' type attitude," Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz said of Sandberg. "I love competing against greatness that has integrity and character like Ryne Sandberg had. The way he carried himself, the way he was as a person is what I think about. It sure was nice to see him represent the sport and the city he played for."
Sandberg also coached after his playing career, serving as the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies between the 2013 and 2015 seasons (119-159). But he will always be most fondly remembered for manning second base in Wrigley Park as one of the true Cubs' legends.
