Mets Reportedly Will 'Remain Active' on Market, Eye Bat After Helsley, Rogers Trades

Andrew PetersJul 30, 2025

The New York Mets have been busy ahead of the trade deadline, dealing for closer Ryan Helsley and reliever Tyler Rogers.

The Mets reportedly aren't done.

Per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, New York intends to "remain active" on the trade market and is specifically eyeing another bat.

The Mets sent reliever José Buttó, outfield prospect Drew Gilbert and pitching prospect Blade Tidwell to the San Francisco Giants in return for Rogers and traded shortstop Jesus Baez (the team's No. 8 overall prospect), pitcher Nate Dohm (No. 14) and pitcher Frank Elissalt to the St. Louis Cardinals in return for Hensley, establishing themselves as clear buyers ahead of Thursday's deadline.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Tuesday that the Cleveland Guardians are "fielding big interest" for left fielder Steven Kwan, noting that the Mets might "be a fit for Kwan, too, assuming they believe he can play center field or they can move Brandon Nimmo back there."

The Mets have already added some relief pitching, but they've also been linked to Athletics' closer Mason Miller, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. Rosenthal noted that the A's are "focused on teams with top-end young pitching" in trade talks.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported earlier this week that the Mets are "the frontrunners" for Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. Robert has 11 homers and 43 RBI this year.

As for what New York is willing to give up, beyond the prospects it has already traded, the Mets reportedly have discussed third baseman Mark Vientos in trade talks, per SNY's Andy Martino.

The Mets aggressiveness at the deadline is unsurprising. After making a run to the NLCS a year ago, New York is sitting atop the NL East at 62-47 and appears ready to make another deep run this season.

The Mets will look to bolster their roster as much as possible before Thursday's deadline.
