Mets' Updated Pitching Rotation, Bullpen After Ryan Helsley, Rogers, Soto Trades
The New York Mets made a flurry of moves ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline.
After acquiring reliever Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, the Mets fortified their bullpen by reportedly trading for Ryan Helsley and Tyler Rogers on Wednesday.
New York sent relief pitcher José Buttó, outfield prospect Drew Gilbert and pitching prospect Blade Tidwell to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Rogers. The Mets also dealt shortstop Jesus Baez as well as right-handers Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt to the St. Louis Cardinals for Helsley.

All three trade acquisitions have experience at closer, as they've combined to record 180 saves throughout their respective careers.
They'll take on different bullpen roles with the Mets, though. New York still has 2025 All-Star Edwin Díaz at closer, as he's recorded 23 saves during his 2025 campaign.
Still, each player should provide a boost to a group of Mets relievers that have struggled as of late. New York's bullpen owns a 4.23 ERA in July, ranking No. 17 in the majors.
Soto has already made two appearances with the Mets since he was traded, allowing two hits without giving up an earned run in 1.2 innings with the team after compiling a 3.96 ERA to begin the year with the Orioles.
As for Helsley, the two-time All-Star hasn't been able to build upon an impressive 2024 campaign but has improved as of late. He owns a 3.00 ERA on the season and has given up just one run across his past 11 appearances as a member of the Cardinals.
Rogers' 53 games played are tied for the most among relievers in 2025, but the heavy workload hasn't affected his productivity. The right-hander has posted a 1.80 ERA and 0.860 WHIP this season.
Each of the three players will look to help the Mets as they attempt to secure a National League East crown, currently sitting in a tie with the Philadelphia Phillies atop the division standings with a 62-47 record.
