Eugenio Suarez's MRI, CT Scan on Hand Injury Negative Amid MLB Trade Rumors

Andrew PetersJul 29, 2025

One of the biggest names on the trade market has received some good news after suffering an injury on Monday.

Arizona Diamondbacks star third baseman Eugenio Suárez took a fastball to the hand during Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers and had X-rays done, per USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen noted that Suárez said his X-rays came back negative. Suárez underwent more testing on Tuesday, with both tests coming back negative, via MLB.com's Steve Gilbert:

Stavenhagen added that Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Suárez's hand and finger were tender to the touch, and he is being considered day-to-day.

Suárez was not in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

As the deadline approaches, the Chicago CubsNew York MetsSeattle Mariners and others have been linked to Suárez. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber reported Sunday that the Philadelphia Phillies have had "exploratory" conversations with the Diamondbacks about Suárez.

Arizona is 51-56 on the season and is 6.5 games back in the wild card race, making them prime candidates to sell at the deadline. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported last week that the Diamondbacks have informed teams that they are looking to move "at least some of their veterans."

Suárez is certainly one of the most enticing potential trade options on the D-Backs roster. The 34-year-old is having one of the best seasons of his career, collecting the fourth-most home runs (36) and the most RBI (87) in the majors.

But because of Suárez's success, the Diamondbacks reportedly are asking for a big haul in return. Nightengale reported Sunday that Arizona and the New York Yankees "had extensive talks" about Suárez, but the Yankees felt his "price tag was too high."

The good news for the Diamondbacks and Suárez is that his X-rays came back negative, so as long as his tests don't reveal any further damage, he should still have plenty of trade interest.
