Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
This is the second pitcher the Braves have acquired in 24 hours. They added Erick Fedde, who had been designated for assignment last week, from the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
The Braves also acquired Joey Wentz on July 11 when he was claimed off waivers.
These moves come as Atlanta's entire starting rotation from opening day is currently on the injured list. Grant Holmes was placed on the IL shortly before the team acquired Fedde, then transferred to the 60-day IL to make room for Fedde on the 26-man roster.
Reynaldo López, Chris Sale, Spencer Schwellenbach and AJ Smith-Shawver were already on the IL. Smith-Shawver is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
López still has no timetable to return while recovering from arthroscopic shoulder surgery in April. The team is hopeful Schwellenbach can return in September recovering from a fractured elbow.
Sale can't return until mid-August at the earliest due to a fractured ribcage.
Spencer Strider is the only currently healthy starter on the Braves who has made at least five starts with an ERA under 4.00. Bryce Elder, who ranks fourth on the team in innings pitched, has the third-highest ERA (6.29) in MLB among all pitchers with at least 80 innings.
Carrasco has spent most of this season in Triple-A after posting a 5.91 ERA in eight appearances with the Yankees. He had a 3.27 ERA in 52.1 innings with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
