Breanna Stewart Reportedly Avoids Significant Leg Injury After Exiting Liberty-Sparks

Timothy RappJul 27, 2025

New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart left Saturday's game with what appeared to be a serious right leg injury, though she reportedly has "avoided a significant injury," according to the Associated Press.

Per that report, "The All-Star forward had imaging done and nothing major turned up, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Sunday because no official statement had been made."

Stewart suffered the leg issue early in the first quarter while running down the court. She went to the locker room and didn't return, and New York lost to the Los Angeles Sparks, 101-99, snapping the Liberty's five-game win streak.

Stewart, 30, is having another fantastic season, averaging 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game across 24 contests, shooting 46.9 percent from the floor.

The seven-time All-Star, two-time MVP and three-time champion probably isn't a leading MVP candidate at this point, with Napheesa Collier, A'ja Wilson and Alyssa Thomas the current frontrunners. But Stewart is still in the conversation.

Stewart's case is bolstered by the fact that New York, the defending WNBA champions, are currently 17-7 and trail only the red-hot Minnesota Lynx (22-4) in the standings.

Any serious injury to Stewart would have been devastating for the Liberty as they jockey for playoff positioning, given her two-way impact, but it sounds as though she avoided anything overly serious and is expected to travel with the team for its upcoming road trip.

And that will come as an enormous relief in the Big Apple.
