Sandy Alcantara Trade Interest Reportedly Has Soared, Teams Convinced Marlins Deal SP
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara significantly improved his stock with his most recent outing, and he reportedly could be on the move before Thursday's trade deadline.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that trade interest in Alcantara "has soared since his last start," and teams are "now convinced he will be moved by the July 31 deadline."
On Wednesday, Alcantara pitched seven shutout innings with four strikeouts to lead the Marlins to a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres. It was just the second time in his 20 starts this season that he didn't surrender an earned run.
Prior to Wednesday's strong showing, Alcantara was in the midst of a massively disappointing season. His 6.66 ERA is by far the worst mark of his career, and his record stands at 5-9, marking his fourth straight year with at least nine losses.
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal previously reported that Alcantara "seems unlikely to move" due to his struggles this season.
However, the 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner showed he still has what it takes to be an effective starter, so teams in need of pitching improvements could try to pry him away from the Marlins before Thursday.
