Steph Curry Reveals Attempt to Trash-Talk Kobe Bryant as NBA Rookie in New Video
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry detailed his experience of talking trash with late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant as a rookie during the 2009-10 season.
"It was a game at home, at Oracle," Curry told Speedy Morman of Complex (8:18 mark). "They were winning, and I think they were up by six or something like that down the stretch and we were starting to do the foul game. He was going to the line, I just walked by him like, 'You nervous?' And the look he gave me is one just is burned into my head. One, here's a rookie talking to him. But two, 'Am I nervous? Like, what are you talking about?'"
"The look he gave me said it all," he added. "It was like, 'You just got here. Relax.'"
Curry and the Warriors lost to Bryant and the Lakers 124-121 at Oracle Arena in March 2010.
Bryant connected on a free throw to give Los Angeles a three-point lead with just over eight seconds left in the fourth quarter and Curry missed a potential game-tying triple on the ensuing possession.
The two stars ultimately faced each other 15 times during their respective careers, with Bryant owning a 9-6 record against Curry.
While the Warriors star would go on to win two MVP awards and four championships while establishing himself as one of the greatest players in NBA history, he was humbled by Bryant at the beginning of his career.
