Jauan Jennings Hasn't Requested 49ers Trade Amid Contract Rumors, Expected to Practice

Doric SamJul 22, 2025

Despite his unhappiness with his contract, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings isn't creating a negative situation.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Tuesday that Jennings hasn't formally requested a trade and is expected to participate in practice when the team begins training camp on Wednesday. San Francisco also added some depth to the receiver room by signing wideout Equanimeous St. Brown after his tryout on Monday, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner.

Jennings is set to make $7.5 million in the final year of his contract this season. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported last week that sources said he "wants a new contract or a trade."

49ers general manager John Lynch didn't reveal the details about Jennings' contract negotiations, but praised him for being present for the start of training camp.

"You guys know our feelings on J.J.," Lynch said. "He embodies what we think the Niners are all about. He plays the right way, and we love him. I think all that stuff, we're not gonna get into the contract talks and all that, that takes care of itself. But we love him, and he's here."

One of the lone bright spots for San Francisco last year, Jennings recorded career highs of 77 catches, 975 yards and six touchdowns. He helped make up for the loss of star receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who suffered a torn ACL and MCL in Week 7.

Jennings could be in for a big role once again this year, as Lynch said that Aiyuk is "not anywhere close to having a concrete timeline" for his return to the field. San Francisco's receiving corps is thin without the 2023 second-team All-Pro selection, so keeping Jennings happy will be important for the 49ers as they try to contend for a playoff spot in 2025.
