Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr., Braves' Eddie Perez Have Heated Exchange on Video
New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Atlanta Braves coach Eddie Pérez turned heads when they exchanged words during Saturday's game at Truist Park.
After Chisholm reached third base and there was a mound visit, the two started talking to each other from across the field when Pérez was in Atlanta's dugout. Chisholm even moved his hands toward his eyes and appeared to mimic a crying motion, while Pérez pointed at his head.
Mark Bowman and Bryan Hoch of MLB.com noted Yankees manager Aaron Boone insinuated Pérez, who is an assistant coach on manager Brian Snitker's staff, was implying one of the Atlanta pitchers would hit Chisholm in the head.

"I don't know exactly what was said, but they were talking about stuff like that, yeah," Boone said.
For his part, Pérez said, "I was just saying, 'Be smart.' I like that guy. He's one of my favorites. And he got mad about it. I don't know why he got mad about it. So, I was like, 'Take it easy,' and he started doing some [stuff]."
There were no other similar incidents later in the game, and Chisholm flew out to center field and lined out to third base in his final two at-bats after he and Pérez exchanged words.
The Braves pitchers did not hit him in the head as he went 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
As for the game itself, New York came charging back from a 7-2 deficit in the final four innings. Chisholm jumpstarted that comeback in the same sixth inning he exchanged words with Pérez with an RBI single to push across the first of four runs in that frame. He also came around to score on Austin Wells' RBI groundout.
Solo home runs from Cody Bellinger and Anthony Volpe in the seventh and eighth innings tied the game at eight, and Trent Grisham provided the biggest moment with a go-ahead grand slam to break things open in the ninth.
The two teams split the first two contests of the three-game set and will play a rubber match Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET.
