New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu won the WNBA 3-Point Contest on Friday evening as part of the league's All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.

Ionescu posted a phenomenal final round performance, scoring 30 points and hitting 11 consecutive threes during one stretch.

She defeated Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray, who finished with 22 points.

This year's field included five players: Gray, Ionescu, Sonia Citron of the Washington Mystics, Lexie Hull of the Indiana Fever and Kelsey Plum of the Los Angeles Sparks.

Hull was a late replacement for Fever guard Caitlin Clark, who is sitting out All-Star Weekend to rest a right groin injury.

In Round 1, both Ionescu and Gray scored 25 points. Ionescu set the high mark before Gray, who needed 23 points to make the final, matched her effort.

Plum finished third with 22 points, while Hull (20 points) and Citron (19 points) posted solid performances.

This was a loaded field featuring the defending three-point contest champion in Gray and the 2023 title winner in Ionescu, who set a three-point contest record (in NBA or WNBA) with 37 points in the final round. Ionescu did not take part in the 2024 competition.

Elsewhere, Plum is averaging 20.1 points per game, helped in part by her 2.5 made three-pointers on average (third in the WNBA). Citron, a star rookie, is top 20 in that stat (1.6 per game) while averaging 14.1 PPG. Hull, meanwhile, is knocking down 46.8 percent of her three-pointers this year.

Friday's event was a two-round competition. Ball racks were positioned in five spots around the three-point arc (both corners, both wings and the top of the key). Players started in the corner, and each rack had five basketballs.

Four of the five racks contained four WNBA basketballs and one "money ball." Making a shot with the WNBA ball was worth one point, and hitting a money ball was worth two points. The fifth rack, which was at the location of the player's choosing, was filled entirely with two-point money balls.

There were also two three-point balls in the STARRY range in deeper locations past the elbow on each side of the top of the key.

In the end, Ionescu took home top honors. She's now just the second player in WNBA history to win the contest at least twice, alongside former Chicago Sky guard Allie Quigley, who won it three times.

Ionescu spoke with ESPN's Holly Rowe after the contest, referencing her efforts last year when she took on Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry in a three-point contest during NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.

Ionescu took a close and competitive loss then (29-26), but she was victorious on Friday.

It was a great night for the Liberty as a whole. Earlier in the evening, New York guard Natasha Cloud won the Skills Challenge, defeating Seattle Storm guard Erica Wheeler in the finals. Gray also participated in the Skills Challenge and took third in the five-player contest.

Now attention turns toward the All-Star Game, which will take place on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
