MLB Agents Say It's 'Sad' and 'Embarrassing' Zero Prospects Attended 2025 Draft
Zero prospects were present at the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday, with multiple agents reacting to the lack of attendance.
One MLB agent told ESPN's Alden Gonzalez and Kiley McDaniel it was "sad" that none of the prospects showed up, while another called the situation "embarrassing."
Only 75 amateur players have been on-site during the 18-year history of the in-person draft, per Yahoo Sports' Jake Mintz. Still, it was surprising that no prospects were present at the event in 2025.

Players haven't shown up as of late due to potentially falling in the draft as well as the discussion process with teams, as agent Scott Boras explained that signing bonuses are negotiated minutes before selections are made, and deals still need to be finalized afterward.
"I have players that are drafted, and they still have to negotiate their contracts," Boras said, via Gonzalez and McDaniel. "You can't go out there and parade in front of a live audience saying, 'I am with the team,' without knowing that they are going to be with the team. We still have other options."
MLB offered six round-trip flights, three hotel rooms and six tickets to the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game to entice prospects to attend the draft this year, per Gonzalez and McDaniel.
The plan evidently didn't work.
