Johni Broome Overpowers Flagg-Less Mavericks
Earlier Dallas Mavericks Summer League games were defined by No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, but they didn't have him available for Wednesday's matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.
They certainly could have used him.
Johni Broome overpowered Dallas' frontcourt on his way to a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds in a 90-82 win. He also proved to be a matchup nightmare by drilling four three-pointers as he impressed social media in the process:
Broome was a second-round pick despite starring at Auburn as the reigning SEC Player of the Year and a consensus All-American. He averaged 18.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game in his final season with the Tigers and was a double-double machine.
Playing time will be difficult to find on Philadelphia's strong roster come the regular season, but he proved he can be a double-double machine against NBA competition as well. More showings like this one could give him a chance to earn regular-season minutes.
Tyrese Proctor Provides Bright Spot for Cavs in Loss
The Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Sacramento Kings 94-86 in Wednesday's game, but individual performances often matter more than game outcomes at Summer League.
And Tyrese Proctor turned in an impressive one.
He poured in 35 points to go with four assists, three rebounds and two steals as he turned heads with quite the outing:
Much like Broome, Proctor was a notable name from his collegiate days. Still, the Duke product fell to the second round after he was overshadowed by Flagg at times during his final collegiate campaign.
But his outside shooting is what stood out and surely caught Cleveland's eye, and it was on display once again when he hit four three-pointers against the Kings. That type of shooting could prove important in a rotational role for a Cleveland team looking to win a title during the upcoming season.
Jahmir Young Catches Fire from Deep in Bulls' Win
The Chicago Bulls have been looking up at the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference in recent seasons, but they earned temporary bragging rights Wednesday with a 102-96 victory.
Jahmir Young was unstoppable on his way to 37 points on a blistering 12-of-17 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 shooting from deep. The Maryland product was the best player on the floor for extended stretches and looked like someone who could contribute more in 2025-26.
Young appeared in just six games last season after going undrafted in 2024. He signed a two-way deal with Chicago but largely played in the G League.
It may be a longshot for him to not only make the Bulls' roster but earn significant playing time, but he showed what he can do when given an opportunity. And outside shooting is always going to play if it was a sign of things to come.
Jeremiah Fears Stuffs Stat Sheet Even in Defeat
Many of the top picks from the 2025 draft are no longer playing in Summer League, but Jeremiah Fears still is and took full advantage of the opportunity even though the New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 95-81.
Fears did a little bit of everything with 22 points, six assists and six rebounds in an impressive showing:
The No. 7 selection looked every bit the part of a top-10 pick and someone who will be a key part of New Orleans' rotation as soon as his rookie campaign.
The passing was particularly notable considering he will be tasked with setting up Zion Williamson during the regular season. If he does that effectively, it could be the difference for the Pelicans as they attempt to reach the playoffs.
