Pete Alonso Says It'd Be 'Really Special' to Sign Long-Term Mets Contract
New York Mets star Pete Alonso inked a two-year deal with his squad ahead of the 2025 season, but now he's hoping to commit to the club for the long term.
Alonso admitted that he will have to make a business decision, but said signing a long-term contract with the Mets "would be really special."
"I mean if it works out, you know, it would be really special to," Alonso said, per SNY's Colin Martin. "But again, there's a lot of things that happen business-wise and a lot of unpredictable things that happen in free agency.

"Yeah, this time around, like last year there's no guarantee, but happy I stayed. This is a great team, it's a great group of guys. We'll see what happens business-wise, nothing's guaranteed, so we'll see."
In February, Alonso inked a two-year deal worth $54 million, but that contract includes a player option for the 2026 season, giving him the freedom to hit the free agency market after the 2025 campaign.
With the way he's played this year, opting out might be the best decision as he looks to land a long-term deal.
Alonso, 30, has 31 homers, 77 RBI and a .280 batting average this season, leading the Mets to a 55-42 start.
Alonso has spent every year of his career with the Mets and would seemingly like to retire in New York. Whether the team will make him the right offer remains to be seen.
