Jauan Jennings, 49ers Reportedly Agree to Contract Adjustment amid NFL Trade Rumors

Andrew PetersSep 3, 2025

After reportedly telling his team that he wanted either a new contract or a trade, Jauan Jennings landed a revised deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jennings and the 49ers agreed to add $3 million in play-time incentives to his 2025 contract. Now, he can earn up to $10.5 million instead of $7.5 million this season.

San Francisco offered Jennings a multi-year deal, but he chose to accept a one-year contract and bet on himself instead (via Schefter).

Schefter reported on July 14 that Jennings was searching for a new contract with the 49ers. Schefter noted that Jennings had previously approached San Francisco about a new deal, but "little progress" had been made.

Had he not received a new contract before training camp, Jennings planned to request a trade to "a team willing to pay him," according to Schefter.

While he was adamant about getting a new contract, Jennings participated in the start of training camp before missing time due to a calf injury.

As the season neared, Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard reported in mid-August that the two sides were "not close on a new agreement."

Ultimately, San Francisco granted Jennings' wish, avoiding too much drama with a key wide receiver who could have an increased role this year.

Jennings, a standout at Tennessee who landed with the 49ers in the seventh round in 2020, has been in San Francisco his entire career.

Jennings had the best season of his career last year, recording 975 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He took on a bigger load than he's used to with star receiver Brandon Aiyuk suffering a torn ACL in October and Deebo Samuel also missing some time.

Jennings will presumably have just as big of a role in the offense this year since Samuel was dealt to the Washington Commanders and Aiyuk is still working his way back from his torn ACL.

Considering their lack of depth at the receiver position, the 49ers needed Jennings on the roster, and his new contract guarantees that he'll be in San Francisco this year.
