Ethan Holliday 'Super Thankful' After Being Drafted by Rockies, Same Team as Dad Matt
The Colorado Rockies selected a familiar name Sunday, drafting Ethan Holliday with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. His father, Matt Holliday, was also drafted by the Rockies in 1998.
"This is a really incredible opportunity," Holiday said. "... I'm just so thankful, and obviously, with the family and the background and my dad being drafted by them, that just adds such a cool element. I've known everybody in the organization since I was born, so I'm super thankful."

Holliday was a seven-time All-Star who played 15 seasons in the majors from 2004 to 2018, including six with the Rockies. He retired with 2,096 hits and 316 home runs.
Although the Rockies currently sit fifth in the NL West with a 22-74 record, Matt Holliday believes the team can turn things around — especially with the excitement surrounding his son becoming part of it next season.
"This year is not going great ... but it doesn’t take long to get things like this turned around," Matt said per the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders. "I’m excited for Ethan to be a part of a turnaround and to get things headed back in the right direction.”
Both father and son were drafted directly out of Stillwater High School by the Colorado Rockies.
