Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani Allows 1 Hit in Longest Outing Since Return from Elbow Injury

Taylyn Hadley Jul 12, 2025

In his longest outing on the mound since returning from injury, ace Shohei Ohtani shut down the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, allowing just one hit and recording four strikeouts across three innings.

The 31-year-old threw 36 pitches, including 25 for strikes.

Before Saturday, Ohtani’s longest outing on the mound this season had been two innings in each of his last two appearances against the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals—both Dodgers losses. Still, Ohtani allowed just two total hits and recorded four strikeouts across those appearances.

The two-way star faced a long recovery after undergoing major elbow surgery in late 2023, which sidelined him from pitching for the entire 2024 season. He still contributed as the Dodgers’ designated hitter but later suffered a labrum tear in his non-throwing shoulder during the 2024 World Series on an attempted stolen base.

Ohtani returned to the mound for the first time on June 16 and has since posted a 1.50 ERA with six strikeouts, a 0.83 WHIP and just four hits allowed over six innings.

At the plate, he’s continued to shine with a .281 batting average, 32 home runs, 60 RBI and 101 hits through 93 games.
