Tyson and Paul placed a $1 million wager on the bout, with Paul betting on Serrano to defeat Taylor and become the undisputed super lightweight title.
Taylor won the first two fights against Serrano, but they were close contests. The first match in 2022 was a split decision.
The second bout, which was the semi-main event on the Paul-Tyson card in November, was scored 95-94 for Taylor by all three judges. Serrano was unhappy with the decision, pointing out she landed 107 more punches than Taylor and connected on a higher percentage of her punches thrown.
The controversy set up the trilogy bout on Friday night. Taylor and Serrano had another close contest, with the Bray Bomber winning by majority decision (97-93, 97-93, 95-95) to retain the undisputed super lightweight title.
The win for Taylor also gives Tyson some redemption over Paul. Their head-to-head bout on Nov. 15 was roundly criticized, so much that Paul's Most Valuable Promotions had to put out a statement that it wasn't rigged.
Tyson lost the match via unanimous decision. It was his first sanctioned boxing match since June 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride.
Rather than try to pursue a rematch for redemption, Tyson put his weight behind arguably the greatest women's boxer of all-time. The strategy paid off to the tune of a $1 million victory over Paul.
