Mariners' Cal Raleigh Says Yankees Weren't 'Discreet' About Munoz's Tipped Pitches
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh said the New York Yankees were not “discreet” about picking up on closer Andrés Muñoz’s tipped pitches.
“He was tipping it every time at second base,” Raleigh said, per New York Times' Chris Kirschner and Brendan Kuty. “Obviously, they weren’t making it very discreet, I guess is the word. It’s part of the game. It’s our job. We should have known about that going into the series. That made it really hard there at the end.”
Raleigh tried to alert his pitcher from behind the plate that the Yankees were catching on to his pitches, but he didn’t want Muñoz to lose focus.

“Yeah, you try to do as much as you can without trying to distract him from what’s happening at the plate,” Raleigh said. “That’s something that we will have to figure out in the next couple of days for sure.”
The Mariners lost all three games in the series to the Yankees on the road.
The third game was the closest in the series after dropping the first two 10-3 and 9-6 but the Yankees walked it off in the 10th inning with an Aaron Judge sacrifice fly.
Muñoz has a 1.54 ERA with 45 strikeouts, a 0.91 WHIP and 21 saves this season.
