Twins' Joe Ryan Reportedly Linked to Red Sox, More Amid 2025 MLB Trade Rumors
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan is being monitored by "a number of teams" leading up to the July 31 MLB trade deadline, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Morosi added that one of the teams known to have interest in Ryan is the Boston Red Sox.
The Twins, who are four games out of a playoff spot in the American League with a 44-47 record, look like potential sellers, whereas the Red Sox may be buyers, as they are now only one game out of an AL Wild Card spot at 48-45.

Morosi noted that the Twins will only consider trading Ryan if they are out of the playoff race and if they get "completely overwhelmed" by an offer.
Ryan, 29, is enjoying a career year so far in 2025, posting an 8-4 record with a 2.76 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 116 strikeouts over 104.1 innings pitched.
While Ryan didn't make his Major League debut until the age of 25 in 2021, he has been a consistently strong performer ever since.
Over the course of his five-year MLB career, Ryan is 41-30 with a 3.71 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 10.0 strikeouts per nine innings.
On top of that, Ryan presents an absolute bargain, as he is making just $3 million this season after avoiding arbitration with the Twins.
Ryan has two more years of arbitration eligibility and he cannot become a free agent until 2028, meaning he won't be a rental for any team that potentially acquires him.
Although Ryan's performance this season suggests he should be in line for a big raise in 2026, his salary still doesn't figure to approach the value he typically provides.
This past offseason, the Red Sox made a big move to add a much-needed ace to their starting rotation, acquiring Garrett Crochet in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.
That trade has paid major dividends, as Crochet was named an All-Star thanks to his 9-4 record, 2.39 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and MLB-leading 151 strikeouts.
Crochet is a power lefty, and Ryan would provide the Red Sox with a right-handed complement as the No. 2 starter, giving Boston arguably one of the best one-two punches in baseball.
The Red Sox have also gotten solid performances out of Brayan Bello (3.22 ERA) and Lucas Giolito (3.66 ERA) this season, but Walker Buehler (6.25 ERA) and Tanner Houck (8.04 ERA) have struggled mightily, so starting pitching remains a significant need.
Minnesota is under no pressure or obligation to trade Ryan, but he is perhaps the best trade chip the Twins have, so moving him to the Red Sox or another team may be at least worth considering if a roster rebuild or retool is in the plans.
