Malcolm Brogdon Reportedly Linked to Lakers, Warriors, Clippers, More Amid Beal Rumors

Timothy RappJul 7, 2025

The NBA offseason has been defined by high-profile trades to this point. Malcolm Brogdon could be a candidate to add to that list in a sign-and-trade deal.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, "League sources say that the Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions to facilitate Brogdon's exit from Washington and a slew of teams have registered varying levels of interest in the 32-year-old. That list includes the Los Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Lakers as well as the Goden Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks."

Brogdon, 32, appeared in just 24 games for the Wizards last season, averaging 12.7 points and 4.1 assists in 23.5 minutes per game while shooting 43.3 percent from the field and just 28.6 percent from three. He's played just 63 games in the past two seasons.

Injury issues have been a persistent theme of Brogdon's career. He hasn't played in 70 or more games in a season since his rookie year.

But as a depth option for contending teams, his addition would make sense. The Clippers could use an option behind James Harden and the Warriors behind Stephen Curry, for instance, while the Suns arguably don't have a true point guard on their roster at the moment beyond Collin Gillespie.

The Lakers have a number of playmakers in Luka Dončić, LeBron James, Austin Reaves and Gabe Vincent, though backcourt depth is never bad to have.

In Minnesota, Brogdon would offer more veteran depth if Rob Dillingham isn't ready to absorb a larger role, while he could serve as Dejounte Murray's backup for the Pelicans if the team isn't ready to play Jeremiah Fears major minutes just yet.

The Kings have a lot of options in the backcourt, so they seem like a bit of an odd fit, but the Bucks desperately need to add more guards after waiving Damian Lillard this offseason.

So there should be an eventual market for Brogdon. Until there is more clarity on Bradley Beal's future, however—a buyout seems inevitable at this point—players like Brogdon, Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook may be on the back-burner for teams.
