Chase Claypool Details Toe Injury Rehab in Video, Eyes NFL Comeback amid Free Agency

Zach BacharJul 5, 2025

Free-agent wide receiver Chase Claypool has his sights set on returning to the NFL before the start of the 2025 season after recovering from a toe injury.

"I tore a ligament and a tendon in my second toe and have been rehabbing, working out, and recovering every day for the past year," Claypool wrote in the caption of an Instagram video posted Friday (h/t NFL.com's Christian Gonzales). "I am back to being the strongest and fastest I've ever been and couldn't be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves."

"I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what's been suppressed these last two years," he added.

Claypool entered 2024 training camp as a member of the Buffalo Bills, but was released by the team with an injury settlement due to a toe issue.

On Friday, the wideout revealed that the injury prevented him from suiting up for the year.

Claypool was initially selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He made an early impact as a member of the Steelers, recording 1,733 yards and 11 touchdown receptions in his first two years combined.

The 26-year-old wasn't able to build upon the momentum that he generated at the start of his career, playing for three teams from 2022-23.

Claypool spent the 2023 season with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins, hauling in a mere eight receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown across 12 combined games.

As training camp draws closer, teams searching for wide receiver depth could reach out to Claypool.
