MLB Execs Reportedly Not Expecting Luis Robert Jr. Trade at 2025 Deadline amid Rumors

Paul KasabianJul 2, 2025

Multiple MLB executives don't believe that the Chicago White Sox will trade outfielder Luis Robert Jr. by the July 31 trade deadline, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic, although a couple others see him potentially getting dealt due to a dearth of "power bats and outfielders" that will be available this summer.

"Several execs don’t think Robert will be traded at this year’s deadline, instead believing that the White Sox will wait until the offseason, hoping he plays better in August and September and regains his trade value. However, a few believe he’ll get traded anyway because of the low supply of power bats and outfielders at the deadline, along with teams understanding what a change of scenery could mean for him. He is making $15 million this year and has $20 million team options for 2026 and 2027."

Robert, 27, is hitting .185 (.584 OPS) with eight home runs and 32 RBI through 73 games. He's been in a decline since a fantastic All-Star campaign in 2023, when Robert smacked 38 home runs, drove in 80 runs and hit .264 with an .875 OPS.

It's certainly possible for Robert to shake out of this funk and play closer to his promising and exciting older form, although there is a larger sample size here of him in this current rut. Last year was a tough one as well, with Robert hitting .224 (.657 OPS) alongside 14 home runs and 35 RBI in 100 games.

Given his slide, it's hard seeing the White Sox picking up a $20 million team option for 2026, so it makes sense for them to see if another team is willing to take a multi-month flyer on Robert in hopes he can produce down the stretch.
