Jaren Jackson Jr. Says He's 'Incredibly Thankful' After $240M Grizzlies Contract

Scott PolacekJul 1, 2025

Jaren Jackson Jr. is ready to be a building block for the Memphis Grizzlies, and he's thankful for everyone who helped him reach this point and everyone who has supported him in the city after reportedly coming to terms on a five-year contract extension Monday.

Jackson took to social media to express that sentiment:

The comments came after ESPN's Shams Charania reported Memphis and the forward are expected to come to terms on a five-year, $240 million maximum renegotiation-and-extension on Monday, meaning he will remain a focal point of the organization for the foreseeable future.

The front office surely envisions the 25-year-old and Ja Morant being a dominant one-two punch for years to come, especially as Jackson continues to attempt to live up to the expectations that were put on his shoulders when Memphis selected him with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2018 NBA draft.

His resume includes a Defensive Player of the Year, two All-Star selections, three All-Defensive nods and two block titles, and he was largely excellent again last season.

Jackson averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep. He helped the Grizzlies reach the playoffs even though Morant was limited to 50 games and was rewarded accordingly Monday.

The contract means there will still be plenty of pressure on the Michigan State product, especially as the Grizzlies attempt to take the next step to become true contenders in a daunting Western Conference.

Yet it is clear he has embraced the city of Memphis and its fans, and his comments suggest that isn't going to change over the course of this new contract extension.
