MLB Exec Predicts Sandy Alcantara Could Land Marlins 'Big Return' at Trade Deadline
The Miami Marlins are deep in the midst of a rebuild and find themselves nine games back in the wild card race as the trade deadline approaches.
While it's still unclear whether the Marlins will be sellers at this year's deadline, one MLB executive believes starting pitcher Sandy Alcántara could net the team a sizable haul.
“Aces don’t become available often, particularly those with two years of club control,” an AL executive said, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. “If Alcantara continues to throw the way he has lately, the Marlins should be able to get a big return for him.”

Report: Correa Has 'Serious' Ankle Injury
Alcántara was rusty earlier this year as he ramped back up following Tommy John surgery, but the Marlins ace has since returned to his typical self. He's notched a 2.74 ERA with a 2-1 record this month, though his efforts have mostly been wasted with Miami far from being a playoff contender.
Alcántara is under contract next season and has a club option in 2027, so any team that trades for him will get a handful of seasons out of him.
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported earlier this week that the Chicago Cubs have already asked about him, and USA Today's Bob Nightengale noted that the Los Angeles Dodgers "want" Alcántara.
Committing to selling at the deadline and putting Alcántara on the trade block would only lead to more interested and larger offers for the former Cy Young Award winner.
