MLB Exec Says Draft Combine 'Punishes the Teams That Work Hard at Scouting'
The MLB Draft Combine is reportedly a source of discontent among some teams.
Sam Blum of The Athletic reported that some players and teams have doubts about the combine, which took place this week at Chase Field.
"One MLB executive said that while the combine is a good thing in a vacuum, it punishes the teams that work hard at scouting by leveling the playing field for teams that don’t commit the same resources," Blum wrote.

The combine is in its fifth year of existence and includes drills, a prospect game and individual workouts. Players also participate in medical testing during the event.
Ethan Holliday, who is projected to be the top pick in the 2025 MLB draft, is among the players not participating in the event. However, six of the top-10-ranked players are participating.
Participation has paid off in the past for prospects like Mason Miller and Jacob Misiorowski, who improved their draft stocks through standout combine showings. Additionally, players who participate in testing get 75 percent of their signing bonus guaranteed.
The 2025 MLB draft will take place July 13-14 in Atlanta, Georgia.
