Cubs' Kyle Tucker Reportedly Linked to Red Sox, Giants in MLB Free Agency amid Rumors
Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker could have a competitive free agency market next offseason.
During an appearance on MLB Central, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the lack of an extension for Tucker likely means he will hit free agency after the 2025 season.

"This guy is going to be a free agent at this point," Heyman said of Tucker. "We thought maybe there would be some discussions, maybe they tried and it didn't work."
Heyman said that the Cubs will remain a contender for him but listed the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants as other potential suitors.
"The Cubs, that's a big market team and they are doing well," Heyman said. "They need to give it a try. That said, he's a free agent, he's only been there a year and there are going to be other teams. Never count out the San Francisco Giants at this point, they look like an aggressive team. The Red Sox have a lot of outfielders but we have heard of (outfielder Jarren) Duran possibly on the market. They are a possibility as well because they really have to do something to make up for (Rafael) Devers."
Tucker was dealt to the Cubs from the Houston Astros ahead of the 2025 season. He is a three-time All-Star and has continued to rise as a member of the Cubs.
The 28-year-old is hitting .279/.391/.507 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs through 73 games thus far in 2025. His efforts have helped Chicago jump out to a 45-29 start as the franchise looks to return to the postseason for the first time since 2020.
The Cubs have the seventh-highest payroll in MLB, per Spotrac. The Giants are eighth, a number that has been boosted by the acquisition of Devers, while the Red Sox are 19th after trading Devers to San Francisco.
Tucker would be an excellent option to replace Devers in Boston or complement Devers in San Francisco. He also could be a good option for the Cubs to build around as they look to assert control over the NL Central for years to come.
